Playing cards with family

Pick up two,
lay down no more than three
to build layered empires
fans, stacks, rows,
guard suits, steal royalty, follow colours
no more than seven in your hand
at the end of your turn I made you count,
your cards before us,
you called me desperate, tyrant,
cursed me until I cursed back.
Later, we played again,
I found myself with eight cards
at the end of my turn
and didn’t say a word,
you should have known better.
